BRRRR, it’s winter and it’s cold outside! It may be Southern California, but when the high dips below 70, or goodness gracious, below 60, we need some heat!Western Eagle Foundation’s Discount Food and Home Goods Store has just the
solution – Hot Chocolate!Today is National Hot Chocolate Day and with temperatures forecasted to be in the high 50’s we want to warm you up from the inside out! In addition to our packaged hot chocolate options where you can just add hot water or milk, here is Allrecipes’ simple yet decadent version:
Ingredients
¾ cup white sugar
⅓ cup unsweetened cocoa powder
1 pinch salt
⅓ cup boiling water
3 ½ cups milk
¾ teaspoon vanilla extract
½ cup half-and-half cream
Directions
Combine sugar, cocoa powder, and salt in a saucepan. Add boiling water and whisk until smooth. Bring mixture to a simmer, stirring continuously to prevent scorching, and cook for 2 minutes.
Stir in milk and heat until very hot without boiling. Remove from heat; add
vanilla.
Divide hot cocoa between 4 mugs. Add cream to each mug to cool cocoa to drinking temperature.
For even more goodness, add marshmallows, homemade whipped cream, a candy cane, or a drizzle of chocolate sauce!
