Thank Goodness for Air Conditioning!
120 years ago, in July 1902, the modern-day air conditioner was invented. Willis Carrier, a skilled engineer, began experimenting with the laws of humidity control to solve an application problem at a printing plant in Brooklyn, NY. But Mr. Carrier was not the first.

The ancient Egyptians were the first to use an air conditioning “system.” They used water to cool indoor spaces by hanging wet mats over their doorways. The evaporated water from the mats reduced indoor air temperatures and added refreshing moisture to the dry desert air.

If you are looking for ways to cool off without using your air conditioner, here are a few:
  • Keep Your Blinds and Curtains Closed
  • Get A Cooling Wrist Band
  • Open your windows when the sun goes down
  • Cool Off with A Cold Shower
  • Spray Yourself with Cold Water
  • Use a Box or Ceiling Fans Correctly - Place a bowl of ice in front of it to chill the air
  • Cook Strategically - Forget about the stews and high effort meals. Instead, summer is the time to bring out your slow cooker and crockpots, which don’t require you to be present nearby and don’t heat your home. BBQs might seem counterintuitive since you’re trying to figure out how to keep cool, but they’re great because they keep the heat outside your home.
  • Drink Plenty of Water
  • Cool your Curtains - Spray your curtains with cold water or let the bottom of them sit in a bucket of water. This will keep them soaked all day long and they’ll cool the air that flows in through your windows. To make this work even better, allow for air circulation.
  • Set Your Ceiling Fans to Rotate Counter-Clockwise
  • Close Doors to Unused Rooms
  • Store Your Moisturizers in The Fridge
